100 Korean Ceramic Artists, the popular exhibition series of the Gyeonggi Museum of Ceramic Design (GMCD), has inspired viewers through annual installments since 2012. And it brings us immense satisfaction to finally witness the culmination of this series more than a decade later, in 2024.

Under the subtitle “Last Seven,” the final installation will feature the works of seven distinguished ceramicists, each dedicated to different genres and techniques, including earthenware, white FOREWORD porcelain, celadon, casting, objets d’art, and installations. Through this collection of artworks, our museum seeks to broaden the concept of everyday ceramics to encompass “ceramic art in daily life” while raising public awareness and appreciation of ceramic art.

The archive of artworks accumulated over a prolonged period through our series highlights captivating vignettes in the trajectory of Korean ceramic art that started as tableware and gradually came to embrace a whole gamut of ceramic art. The 100 Korean ceramists and their works, introduced over the years by various planners, are significant as they serve as key records of the craft value inherent in ceramic art. Building upon the series’ success, GMCD will continue to shed new light on everyday ceramics from diverse perspectives, thereby expanding their scope into the realm of art. We hope that our visitors discover the true essence of ceramic art—its familiar yet unique charms—through our wide array of exhibits, which range from tableware (once the narrow definition of this artistic genre) to art objects and installations.
